Growing and Using Catnip in Simply Cats

Planting Catnip Seeds

Craft or obtain Catnip Seeds and plant them on farmland like any other crop. Give them light and water. Over time the plants grow into Catnip, which you can harvest by breaking the mature plant.

Harvesting Catnip

Break fully grown Catnip to collect the item. Replant Catnip Seeds afterward so you always have a supply. Catnip is the core resource for interacting with cats, so keep a stack on hand.

Taming with Catnip

Hold Catnip and approach a wild cat. The cat will follow you. Right-click the cat with Catnip repeatedly until hearts appear and it becomes tamed. Then use an Adoption Certificate to register ownership.

Breeding with Catnip

Feed Catnip to two tamed cats of opposite sexes to encourage breeding. The female will become pregnant and eventually produce kittens. Feed kittens Catnip once they are grown enough to tame them.

Other Uses

Catnip is also used in crafting recipes for cat-related items. Keep a steady farm going so you never run out. Store harvested Catnip in a chest near your cats' living area along with Cat Bowls, Litter Boxes, and Tree Beds so everything you need is in one place.
