Upgrading Backpacks with the backpack_upgrade Recipe
What the Recipe Type Does
The simplybackpacks:backpack_upgrade recipe type handles four recipes in this mod — one for each tier above Common. Each upgrade takes a lower-tier backpack and transforms it into the next tier up. The chain is fixed:
- Common Backpack → Uncommon Backpack
- Uncommon Backpack → Rare Backpack
- Rare Backpack → Epic Backpack
- Epic Backpack → Ultimate Backpack
There is no way to jump from Common directly to Rare or Epic. You must pass through every intermediate tier.
Performing an Upgrade
Open a crafting grid and place your current backpack plus the additional ingredients the upgrade recipe calls for. The backpack is consumed and replaced by the higher-tier version. Because the recipe type is backpack_upgrade rather than crafting_shaped, the arrangement follows the upgrade recipe's own layout — check the recipe viewer in your instance if you need the exact positions.
Managing the Chain
Upgrade one backpack at a time. If you craft a second Common Backpack while already holding an Uncommon one, you are spending materials on a tier you have already passed. Keep your highest-tier backpack as your active storage and only craft lower tiers when you specifically need them as upgrade inputs. The Ultimate Backpack is the end of the chain — once you reach it, no further backpack_upgrade recipe applies.
