How to Craft Every Backpack Tier in Simply Backpacks

Start With the Common Backpack

Every backpack line begins with the Common Backpack. Craft it using the crafting_shaped recipe, then use it as the base ingredient for every upgrade that follows. Place the Common Backpack in your inventory or hotbar and right-click to open its storage grid.

Upgrade Through the Tiers

The remaining four backpacks — Uncommon Backpack, Rare Backpack, Epic Backpack, and Ultimate Backpack — are produced with the simplybackpacks:backpack_upgrade recipe type. Each upgrade consumes the previous tier backpack plus additional ingredients, so you cannot skip tiers. The progression is strictly:

1. Common Backpack → Uncommon Backpack

2. Uncommon Backpack → Rare Backpack

3. Rare Backpack → Epic Backpack

4. Epic Backpack → Ultimate Backpack

Because there are exactly four backpack_upgrade recipes and five backpack items, the Common Backpack is the only one made by crafting_shaped; the other four are upgrade outputs. Keep the lower-tier backpack in the crafting grid when performing an upgrade — it is the core ingredient, not a leftover.

Practical Tips

Upgrade in order rather than stockpiling lower tiers. If you already have an Uncommon Backpack, turn it into a Rare Backpack before crafting a second Uncommon one. Carry your current backpack with you when gathering upgrade materials so you can craft the next tier on the spot.
