What Magmatic Sponges Do

Magmatic Sponge and Magmatic Sponge on a Stick are the mod's lava-handling items. Where a regular Sponge clears water, the Magmatic variants clear hot fluids. Use them to drain lava pools, clear lava lakes, or open up areas blocked by lava.

Crafting the Magmatic Sponge

The Magmatic Sponge block is produced through the mod's crafting recipes. Once you have the block, combine it with a stick to get a Magmatic Sponge on a Stick. This is the handheld version you swing at lava.

Using the Block vs the Stick

Place the Magmatic Sponge block next to lava to absorb it in a radius. Use the Magmatic Sponge on a Stick to target lava directly in front of you. The stick is better for precise work, such as clearing a single lava source or carving a tunnel. The block is better for bulk removal in a fixed area.

Upgrading Further

The Magmatic Sponge on a Stick is an intermediate tier. Upgrade it to Energized Sponge on a Stick, then Compressed Sponge on a Stick, then Compressed Magmatic Sponge on a Stick, then Compressed Creative Sponge on a Stick. Each step uses the previous stick plus the matching sponge block. Keep the Magmatic Sponge on a Stick until you have the next tier ready, so you always have a lava tool available.
