Get Better Colored Lighting Effects

Understand Colored Lighting

Simple Shadows Shaders applies colored light to your world—torches glow warm orange, lava glows red, and water reflects cool blue tones. This happens automatically, but you can enhance the effect.

Maximize Lighting Impact

  • Place light sources strategically — colored lighting is most visible when light sources are positioned to cast across surfaces. Torches on walls create warmer ambiance than torches on the ground
  • Use varied light colors — combine warm (torches, lanterns, campfires) and cool (soul lanterns, amethyst) light sources for dramatic contrast
  • Build in darker areas — colored lighting effects are most noticeable in caves, night scenes, and shaded structures where vanilla lighting is dim

Adjust Lighting Settings

In Shader Options, look for colored lighting or light intensity sliders. Increasing these values makes colored light spread further and appear more saturated.

Test Different Times

Visit your builds at sunset and night to see how colored lighting transforms the atmosphere. The effect is subtle but creates a warmer, more inviting feel compared to vanilla Minecraft's flat lighting.
