How to Use Oil for Furnaces and Minecarts

Collecting Oil from Underground

Heavy oil generates in deep pockets throughout the Overworld. Mine downward to lower Y levels and look for oil blocks surrounded by stone. Use an iron bucket to scoop up oil directly—it will fill the bucket for transport. Oil burns in furnaces as fuel, providing a renewable alternative to coal once you locate a productive oil pocket.

Powering Minecarts with Oil Cans

Craft an oil can using collected oil and appropriate materials. Use the oil can on minecarts to increase their speed by 1.5 times, making rail transport significantly faster. This is particularly useful for long-distance mining routes or connecting distant bases.

Buffing Iron Golems

Oil cans also enhance Iron Golems when used on them directly. Applying oil grants golems a Strength buff, boosting their melee damage output. This is valuable if you've constructed golems to defend your base or farm. Collect oil regularly to maintain a supply for both furnace fuel and utility upgrades throughout your base infrastructure.
