How to Find and Mine Salt Ore

Locating Salt Deposits

Salt ore generates in multiple biomes across the Overworld, making it accessible early in your playthrough. Look for salt ore along riverbanks and swamp edges at ground level—these are the easiest deposits to spot. For larger quantities, mine between Y levels 20 and 60 in flatlands and ocean floors.

If you're searching for the rarer Pink Salt Ore, travel to mountain biomes and climb to higher elevations between Y levels 130 and 256. Pink salt is significantly rarer but offers superior benefits when used for seasoning.

Mining and Harvesting

Use any pickaxe to break salt ore blocks—stone tier or better works efficiently. Salt ore drops as an item when mined, so ensure your inventory has space. Consider strip mining horizontally at Y level 40 in flatlands for steady salt collection without extensive climbing.

Once collected, salt can be combined with water bottles to create salt water potions, used directly to season food for bonus hunger restoration, or placed as blocks to melt ice and snow in your base. Store excess salt in chests near your main base for convenient access during food preparation and construction projects.
