Optimize Shader Performance and Reduce Lag

Access Performance Options

Open the RTUShader settings menu and look for performance or quality tier options. RTUShader typically includes settings to balance visual quality against frame rate.

Reduce Visual Features

Common performance adjustments include:

  • Shadow quality: Lower shadow resolution reduces GPU load while maintaining soft shadow appearance
  • Ambient occlusion: Disabling or reducing this effect improves performance significantly
  • Sky and glow effects: Reducing glow intensity lightens the computational load
  • Water reflections: Disabling or simplifying water reflection calculations helps on lower-end hardware

Monitor Frame Rate

After each adjustment, check your FPS. RTUShader is designed to be relatively lightweight compared to heavy shader packs, but older systems may need to disable soft ambient lighting or reduce sky complexity.

Start by lowering shadow quality first—this typically provides the best performance gain while maintaining RTUShader's characteristic clean, bright aesthetic. If still experiencing lag, progressively disable glow and ambient effects until performance improves.
