Hide Your Nametag Based on Distance

Understanding Proximity-Based Nametag Hiding

This feature enhances roleplay immersion by hiding nametags from players who are far away. Only characters in close proximity see your nametag floating above your head, simulating realistic line-of-sight awareness.

How It Works

1. Nametag hiding is controlled by server administrators through the in-game configuration menu

2. When enabled, your nametag only appears to players within a certain distance (set by staff)

3. Players beyond that range see you as an unnamed character until they move closer

4. The system works automatically—no action needed from you

Checking Your Settings

  • Ask your server admin if proximity nametag hiding is active
  • Use /rpessentials config set hideNametags <value> (admin-only) to toggle the feature
  • Your nametag still appears on the player list for staff and nearby players

Tips

  • This pairs well with custom nicknames for full identity control
  • Scoreboard teams remain unaffected by nametag hiding
  • The feature encourages roleplay by preventing metagaming through distant nametag reading
