How to Craft the Staff and Cast Spells

Staff Progression

There are three staff tiers:

• Staff — the entry-level casting tool.
• Crystal Staff — the upgraded version.
• Runic Focus and Charged Runic Focus — the focus items that pair with casting.

Craft the Staff first. It is the cheapest casting implement and lets you start using the mod's magic without committing rare materials.

Casting Altar

Place a Casting Altar block. The Altar is where casting and runic crafting happen. You will also need Spell Powder from the Mortar and Pestle.

Stand at the Altar with your Staff equipped. The Altar consumes Spell Powder per cast. Keep a stock of it — running dry mid-fight is the most common way to die while casting.

Runic Focus

Craft a Runic Focus to store and channel spells. Upgrade it to a Charged Runic Focus once you have the materials. The charged version is what you want for sustained casting.

Runic Tablet

A Runic Tablet is the written record of a spell. Craft it, then use it at the Casting Altar to learn or apply the spell it carries.

Order of Operations

1. Grind Spell Powder in the Mortar.

2. Craft the Staff.

3. Place the Casting Altar.

4. Craft a Runic Focus, then a Charged Runic Focus.

5. Craft a Runic Tablet and use it at the Altar.

6. Cast with the Staff, refilling Spell Powder as needed.
