Reduce Shadow Harshness During Midday

Locate Shadow Settings

Open the shader options menu and find the shadow softness or shadow quality controls. Refract Shaders generates soft shadows by default, but you can adjust their characteristics.

Adjust Shadow Softness

Increase the shadow softness slider to make shadows blend more gradually into lit areas. This reduces the stark contrast between shadowed and sunlit blocks during bright midday hours. Decrease it if shadows feel too diffuse or undefined.

Control Shadow Distance

Some shader packs let you adjust how far shadows render from the player. Reducing shadow render distance can improve performance while still maintaining soft shadow effects nearby.

Observe Throughout the Day

Play through a full Minecraft day cycle and watch how shadows behave. Early morning and late evening naturally produce longer, softer shadows. At noon, your adjusted softness setting should prevent harsh black lines under blocks while keeping definition. Fine-tune until the balance feels right for your preferred aesthetic.
