How to Build Your First Refined Storage Network

Place the core blocks

Start with a Controller. Every network needs exactly one Controller as its brain. Place it down, then run Cable from the Controller to each block you want on the network. Cable is the connective tissue — any network block touching Cable, or touching another network block, joins the same network.

Attach a Grid to a Cable. The Grid is your access terminal: open it to see everything stored on the network and to pull items in and out. Next to the Grid, place a Disk Interface on the same Cable. The Disk Interface is where Storage Disks go.

Add storage

Craft a Storage Disk. The tiers are 1k Storage Disk, 4k Storage Disk, 16k Storage Disk, and 64k Storage Disk — higher tiers hold more. Put the disk into the Disk Interface. The Grid now shows storage capacity.

To move items in automatically, place an Importer against a chest or machine and connect it to the network with Cable. Set the Importer to pull from that inventory. To push items out, use an Exporter the same way, configured to send into the target inventory.

Once the Grid shows your items and the Importer fills the disk, the network is live. Expand by adding more Cable, more Disk Interfaces, and higher-tier disks as you fill up.
