Why You Need a Matchbox

The Matchbox is the tool that converts an Unlit Torch into a Lit Torch. Without it, your Unlit Torches stay dark. Craft one Matchbox early and keep it with you at all times, because every torch you want to light depends on it.

Crafting the Matchbox

Gather the ingredients for the Matchbox and combine them in a crafting grid. The recipe is a shaped crafting recipe, so the arrangement of the ingredients in the grid matters. Once crafted, the Matchbox sits in your inventory and is used in the torch-lighting recipe.

Using the Matchbox

To light a torch, place the Matchbox and an Unlit Torch together in a crafting grid. The result is a Lit Torch. You do not consume the Matchbox in this process, so a single Matchbox serves you for as many torches as you need to light. Keep a stack of Unlit Torches in your inventory and convert them one at a time as you explore caves, build, or travel at night. This workflow means you never waste a Lit Torch that you did not need.
