How to Cure the Plague

Recognizing Plague

Plague spreads through Filth, Garbage Pile, Compressed Garbage, Diseased Garbage, and Pied Garbage. Pied Wool and Pied Garbage are contaminated blocks. Black Death Mask and Black Death Scythe are plague-themed items. Black Death Spawn Egg spawns the plague carrier.

Cleaning Up

Remove Filth and Garbage Pile blocks by mining them. Compressed Garbage is a denser form — break it down or dispose of it. Diseased Garbage and Pied Garbage must be cleared to stop spread. Dye Sponge is a block used to absorb dyes, not plague, so do not rely on it for cleanup.

Curing Infected Rats

Infected rats show plague symptoms. Feed them Bundle of Sweet-Smelling Herbs to cure them. Keep cured rats separated from Filth and Garbage Pile blocks to prevent reinfection. Ball of Filth is a dropped item from infected rats — dispose of it.

Protective Gear

Archeologist Hat, Aviator Cap, Chef Toque, Exterminator Hat, Farmer Hat, and Fisherman's Hat are wearable hats. Exterminator Hat is the plague-themed protective headwear. Ghost Pirat Hat is a separate cosmetic.

Preventing Recurrence

Keep your rat enclosures free of Garbage Pile and Filth. Store Compressed Garbage away from rats. If you see Pied Garbage or Pied Wool spreading, mine it immediately. Black Death Mask and Black Death Scythe are plague items to avoid equipping near your colony.
