How to Make Hardtack and Store It in a Crate

Hardtack is the backbone of long trips. You need it before you can make a Crate of Hardtack, and the crate is what makes bulk storage practical.

Making Hardtack

Craft Hardtack using the crafting recipe for it. Once you have several pieces, you can bundle them into a Package Of Hardtack through its crafting recipe. Keep a stack of plain Hardtack in your inventory for eating on the move, and use the Package Of Hardtack as a compact way to carry more.

Building the Crate

Combine Hardtack into a Crate of Hardtack using the crafting recipe. The Crate of Hardtack is a block, so place it down in your base or storage room. This is the item to keep in mind when you want a visible, bulk supply rather than loose pieces in a chest.

Using Your Supply

Eat Hardtack directly when you are travelling and do not want to stop for a full meal. When you return to base, restock the Crate of Hardtack from your Package Of Hardtack so the block stays full. If you run low, repeat the Hardtack crafting step and refill the package before topping up the crate.
