How to Can Food: From Open Cans to Sealed Cans

Canning turns fresh ingredients into sealed Cans that keep for later. Every can has an Open version that you eat from, and the sealed version is what you craft and store.

Opening and Eating

When you have a sealed Can, you do not eat it directly. You open it first to get the matching Open Can, such as Open Canned Beef or Open Canned Carrots. The Open Can is the item you consume. Plan for this: a sealed can is storage, an open can is a meal.

What You Can Can

The mod supports a wide range of canned foods, including Canned Apple Slices, Canned Beef, Canned Beets, Canned Borscht, Canned Bread, Canned Breaded Fish, Canned Breaded Ham, Canned Cake, Canned Carrots, Canned Cookies, Canned Fish, Canned Melon, Canned Mushrooms, Canned Mutton, Canned Pork, Canned Potato, Canned Pumpkin Puree, Canned Rabbit Stew, Canned Whole Chicken, and Canned Whole Rabbit. Each has a matching Open Can.

Stocking Up

Craft the sealed Cans you want, then store them in chests by type. Before a trip, open only the cans you intend to eat and carry the Open Cans. This keeps your sealed stock intact and your travel inventory light. Condensed Milk follows the same pattern: Can of Condensed Milk opens into Open Can of Condensed Milk.
