Adjust Global Illumination Intensity for Your Build Style
Finding the Right Balance
Global illumination can make interiors feel naturally lit, but too much can wash out details in your builds. The shader settings menu lets you control how aggressively light bounces between surfaces.
Steps to Adjust
1. Open the shader options screen (usually accessed through video settings)
2. Look for Global Illumination or GI intensity sliders
3. Reduce the value if caves and enclosed spaces feel too bright
4. Increase it if you want more ambient light reaching shadowed areas
5. Test changes in different times of day—morning light behaves differently than noon
6. Pay attention to how light spreads from colored blocks (wool, concrete) onto nearby surfaces
Tips
Start at default settings and make small adjustments. Lower intensity settings preserve more shadow detail and work well for atmospheric builds. Higher settings create a more uniformly lit, cheerful environment. The effect is most noticeable indoors and in caves where light has room to bounce multiple times.
