How to Craft and Use Vertical Slabs in Quark

Crafting Vertical Slabs

Vertical slabs occupy half a block face instead of the bottom half. Every wood type has one: Acacia Vertical Slab, Ashen Vertical Slab, Azalea Vertical Slab, Birch Vertical Slab, Bamboo Vertical Slab, and Bamboo Mosaic Vertical Slab. Stone variants include Andesite Vertical Slab, Andesite Brick Vertical Slab, Blackstone Vertical Slab, Blackstone Brick Vertical Slab, and Black Terracotta Shingle Vertical Slab.

Use the stonecutting recipe type to convert a full block into its vertical slab form, or check the crafting_shaped recipes in your recipe book for the plank-based versions. Place two vertical slabs against each other on the same face to form a full wall-thickness column.

Building Tips

• Pair a Vertical Slab with a normal Slab on the same block space to create a corner that reads as a full block from two sides.
• Use Andesite Pillar or Andesite Bricks alongside Andesite Vertical Slab for trim that matches the horizontal slab line.
• Blackstone Brick Vertical Slab and Black Terracotta Shingle Vertical Slab work well for retaining walls and roof edges where a full block would look too heavy.

Vertical slabs cannot be walked on like a floor slab; they are vertical, so treat them as thin walls. Combine them with Posts (Acacia Post, Ashen Post, Azalea Post, Bamboo Post) to cap the exposed edge.
