Maximize Volumetric Light Ray Effects at Sunset
Understand When Volumetric Rays Appear
Volumetric light shafts are most visible during daytime and sunset when the sun is low on the horizon and particles or terrain break up the light. Underground caves with torches also produce dramatic rays.
Position Yourself for Best Results
Stand in a location where:
- Sunlight passes through trees, clouds, or terrain gaps
- You're partially in shadow and partially in direct light
- Particles (dust, rain, or fog) are visible in the air
The contrast between lit and shadowed areas makes rays more pronounced.
Adjust Volumetric Settings
If rays aren't visible enough, increase the volumetric light intensity in the shader settings. Higher values make light shafts more prominent but may impact performance.
Capture the Effect
For the most cinematic appearance, position your camera to look toward the light source—either the setting sun or a bright torch in a cave. The rays will project dramatically across the landscape, creating that movie-like atmosphere the shader is designed for.
