Balance Daylight and Torchlight Indoors
Access Lighting Controls
Open shader options (OptiFine: Shift + O > Shaders > Shader Options; Iris: /iris config). Look for Lighting, Brightness, or Exposure settings.
Adjust Light Balance
Pretty Shadows Shaders' soft lighting feature can be tuned to:
- Increase or decrease overall brightness — Brighten dark caves and interiors, or darken overly bright daylight.
- Modify torch brightness contribution — Control how much torchlight illuminates your surroundings relative to sunlight.
- Adjust ambient light — Set the baseline light level in shadowed areas so caves aren't pitch-black but still feel dark.
Test in Multiple Environments
Build a small test structure with torches and compare indoor lighting to outdoor daylight. Caves should feel atmospheric but navigable; your base interior should be well-lit by torches without looking washed out. Adjust settings incrementally—large changes can make gameplay feel unnatural. Check different times of day and weather conditions to ensure balanced lighting throughout your world.
