Customize How Ping Numbers Appear in the Tab List

Format Your Ping Display

You can control exactly how ping values are formatted and displayed next to player names using format strings.

Steps:

1. Open betterpingdisplay.json in your config folder

2. Find the pingTextFormatString setting

3. Modify the format code to change how numbers appear (standard Minecraft format codes apply)

4. Save the file

5. Rejoin your server to see the updated format

Common Customizations

You can add prefixes, suffixes, or adjust spacing around the millisecond value. For example, you might display ping as [123ms] or → 123 instead of the default format.

Experiment with different format strings to find a style that fits your preference. The changes take effect immediately after you save and rejoin, so you can test multiple variations quickly.
