Reduce Lag and Improve Frame Rate on Low-End Hardware
Check Current Performance Settings
Open the PotatoGlow Shaders configuration menu and review the active quality preset. PotatoGlow is designed to run on budget hardware, but you can optimize further.
Disable or Lower Non-Essential Effects
Look for toggles or sliders for:
- Reflections: Disable water reflections or set them to a lower quality if frame rate dips
- Shadows: Reduce shadow distance or softness—these have the most impact on older systems
- Atmospheric Fog: Lower fog density slightly to reduce rendering load
Adjust Render Distance
In your main Minecraft settings, lower render distance to 8-12 chunks. This is often more effective than shader tweaks alone on very old laptops.
Monitor Results
Use an FPS counter (F3 debug screen) to measure improvements. Make one change at a time so you know which setting helps most. Even small reductions in shadow quality or fog density can recover 10-20 frames on budget GPUs.
Balance Quality and Performance
PotatoGlow's strength is maintaining visual appeal at low frame rates—you don't need to disable everything. Find the sweet spot where your build still looks good and your game runs smoothly.
