Make Textures Pop While Keeping the Cartoon Style
Understand the Texture-Shader Balance
PosterizationShader preserves your texture pack's detail while applying flat color bands over them. The shader doesn't replace textures—it recolors and simplifies lighting to create the cartoon effect.
Choose Compatible Texture Packs
Use texture packs with clear, bold colors and good contrast. Packs designed for stylized or low-resolution looks (16x or 32x resolution) work especially well. Avoid overly detailed or photorealistic packs, which can clash with the posterized lighting.
Adjust Lighting Settings
Look for shader options controlling how colored lighting blends with flat shading. Increasing the flat shading component makes colors more uniform and bold; increasing colored lighting adds more gradient variation while maintaining the cartoon mood.
Test in Different Environments
Build a small test area with various blocks—wood, stone, colored wool, glass. View it in daylight, shadow, and artificial light. This shows how your texture pack and shader settings interact across different lighting scenarios.
