How to Check Pollution Levels with the Aerometer

Craft an Aerometer to measure how polluted the air is around you. Hold the Aerometer while you walk through an area and it reports the pollution level at your position. Use it before you enter a cave, a factory zone, or any region where you suspect the air is dirty, so you know whether you need a respirator at all. The Aerometer is the only diagnostic item in the set, so treat it as your scouting tool rather than a filter.

Pairing the Aerometer with Your Gear

Carry the Aerometer alongside your respirator so you can confirm the filter is working. If the reading stays high while you wear an Iron Respirator, the frame is likely spent and needs replacing with a fresh Iron Filter Frame. If you have upgraded to a Golden Respirator or Diamond Respirator, compare readings between tiers to decide which one you need for a given area. Keep spare Filter Frames, Vacuum Bags, and Vacuum Tubes in your inventory so you can swap a filter the moment the Aerometer shows the air is still dirty. Check the reading again after each replacement to verify the new frame is doing its job before you continue traveling.
