How to Tame a Companion in the Player Companions Mod

Pick the Right Taming Item

Each companion species accepts only specific taming items. Hold the correct one in your main hand and use it on the companion until hearts appear.

• Apple — used for taming.
• Bone — used for taming.
• Cake — used for taming.
• Carrot — used for taming.
• Honeycomb — used for taming.
• Raw Mutton — used for taming.
• Seagrass — used for taming.
• Sweet Berries — used for taming.
• Wheat seeds — used for taming.

Taming Steps

1. Find the companion you want. Spawn eggs exist for Dobutsu, Fairy, Firefly, Lizard, Pig, Raptor, Rooster, Samurai, Small Ghast, Small Slime, Snail, and Welsh Corgi.

2. Select a taming item from the list above in your hotbar.

3. Right-click the companion with the item. Repeat until it is tamed.

4. Once tamed, the companion follows you and stays with you as you travel.

If one taming item does not work on a given companion, try another from the list. Different species respond to different foods, so keep several taming items on hand when you go looking for a new companion.
