Adjusting Fog Density to Balance Atmosphere and Visibility
Finding the Shader Settings
Access the shader configuration menu by pressing the designated shader settings key (usually Right Shift or Right Control while in-game). Look for fog or atmosphere-related sliders in the menu.
Tuning Fog Levels
The psychological fog effect can be overwhelming if you want to actually navigate your world. Locate the fog distance or fog density slider:
- Increase fog density if you want maximum horror atmosphere and don't mind reduced visibility
- Decrease fog density if you need to see further ahead for building or exploring safely
- Find a middle ground by adjusting incrementally—test each change by moving around your world
Note that fog becomes thicker at night and in caves naturally with this shader, so you may want different settings for surface exploration versus underground mining.
Testing Your Changes
After adjusting, walk into different environments—open plains, dense forests, and caves—to see how your fog setting affects gameplay. The bodycam effect will still remain active, preserving the VHS horror aesthetic while giving you practical visibility when needed.
