Farming Cactus Crops: Cactusfruit, Barrel Cactus, Nopales and Aloe

Cactus-Family Crops

Four crops in the mod belong to the cactus family: Cactusfruit Seed, Barrel Cactus Seed, Nopales Seed, and Aloe Seed. These do not grow like ordinary grain crops and should not be planted on standard farmland.

Where to Plant

Plant cactus-family Seeds on sand, matching how vanilla cactus grows. Give them open space and light. They do not need water the way farmland crops do, so you can build a dry plot for them anywhere.

Keep the cactus plot separate from your main farm. Mixing them into farmland rows wastes the Seeds, since they will not grow correctly there.

Harvesting

Let each cactus plant mature fully before harvesting. Break or harvest the mature plant to collect its produce. Cactusfruit and Nopales are edible cactus produce; Aloe is grown for its plant material; Barrel Cactus is grown for its own produce. Harvest carefully so you do not destroy the base of the plant if you want it to keep producing.

Practical Setup

Build a sand platform for the four cactus crops and keep a chest of spare Seeds beside it. Because these crops do not need irrigation, they make a good low-maintenance plot for a desert base or a dry corner of your farm. Replant from your Seed stock whenever a plant is fully harvested.
