Crafting Bone Tools: Axe, Pickaxe, Shovel, Hoe and Sword

Turning Fossils into Tools

Once you have Fossils, head to a crafting table. Each tool uses a shaped recipe with Fossils placed in the standard tool pattern — the head shape in the top row and a handle running down the middle column. The Bone Pickaxe mines stone and ores, the Bone Axe fells wood, the Bone Shovel digs dirt, sand and gravel, the Bone Hoe tills farmland, and the Bone Sword handles combat. Because all five share the same Fossil ingredient, you can craft a full set from one batch of Fossils without switching materials.

Using and Replacing Your Tools

Bone tools behave like their stone or iron equivalents in day-to-day mining and combat, so treat them as your everyday kit. Carry a spare Fossil in your inventory so you can recraft a broken tool on the spot instead of walking home. If you plan a long mining trip, craft two Bone Pickaxes and leave one in a chest near your mine entrance. The Bone Sword is worth keeping on your hotbar at all times — skeletons drop the bones you need to make more Fossils, so the loop feeds itself. When a tool finally wears out, drop the leftover Fossil into the crafting grid and rebuild it in seconds.
