Copper Buttons: Weathering, Waxing, and Redstone Use

Crafting Copper Buttons

Copper Button is a redstone component. Craft it from copper materials in a crafting recipe. Place it on any solid block face to use as a momentary switch. Pressing it emits a short redstone pulse, ideal for doors, dispensers, and note blocks.

Weathering Stages

Copper Buttons weather over time through four stages: Copper Button, Exposed Copper Button, Weathered Copper Button, and Oxidized Copper Button. Each stage changes the button's appearance. Weathering happens naturally when the button is placed in the world and exposed to the environment.

Stopping Weathering with Wax

Apply wax to lock a button at its current stage. The waxed variants are: Waxed Copper Button, Waxed Exposed Copper Button, Waxed Weathered Copper Button, and Waxed Oxidized Copper Button. A waxed button will not advance to the next weathering stage, so you can keep a specific color permanently.

Practical Tips

Use Waxed Copper Button when you want a stable decorative redstone switch. Use the unwaxed Copper Button if you want it to age naturally. All button variants function identically as redstone inputs — only appearance and weathering behavior differ. Keep one of each waxed stage in storage if you build with mixed copper palettes.
