Stacking the Column

A working shaft is a vertical stack of elevator blocks of one single color. Pick your color first — for example, Light Gray Elevator — and craft enough of them for every floor you want to reach. Place one elevator block at each floor level, directly above the one below, with no gaps in the column.

If you leave a gap, the jump and sneak controls will not find the next elevator block and you will not travel. Fill every level in the shaft with the same color block.

Moving Between Floors

Stand on an elevator block and press jump to rise to the next elevator block above. Press sneak to descend to the next elevator block below. Each press moves you exactly one elevator block in the column, so a five-block shaft gives you five floors.

Keeping Colors Separate

Because elevators only link to matching colors, you can run several independent shafts side by side in the same building. A Cyan Elevator column and an Orange Elevator column placed next to each other will not interfere. Use this to give different wings of a base their own vertical routes without mixing destinations.
