Reloading Muzzleloaders with Powder Horns and Cartridges

Choose your ammunition

Match the ball to the bore: Large Lead Musket Ball for muskets and calivers, Large Lead Buckshot for blunderbusses, Large Lead Birdshot for duckfoot and fowling pieces. Pre-assemble Large Lead Musket Ball Paper Cartridge to skip a step in the field. Stone and iron variants (Large Stone Musket Ball, Large Iron Musket Ball) work but wear barrels faster.

Use the reload recipes

The firearm_muzzleloader_reload_shapeless recipe loads a firearm directly from your inventory: hold the gun, a ball or cartridge, and a Large Powder Charge. The firearm_muzzleloader_powder_horn_reload_shapeless recipe lets you load from a powder horn instead of a pre-measured charge — faster if you carry bulk High-grade Black Powder.

Ignition sources

Matchlocks need Match Cord or a Long Match lit and held. Flintlocks and caplocks use their internal mechanism — caplocks consume a Caplock Mechanism charge, flintlocks strike a flint. Keep spare Flintlock Repair Parts or Caplock Repair Parts on hand.

Field maintenance

After several shots, apply a Firearm Repair Kit to restore condition. Swap worn barrels on the Gunsmith's Bench using Large Iron Barrel, Large Brass Barrel, or Large Stone Barrel replacements.
