Making Black Powder and Liquid Niter

Produce Liquid Niter

Place a Niter Bedding block and let it accumulate, then harvest Liquid Niter into a Liquid Niter Bottle or Liquid Niter Bucket. A Cauldron of Liquid Niter holds the fluid for processing. Use the Mortar and Pestle recipes on the Gunsmith's Bench to grind raw niter into usable form.

Grade your powder

Start with Low-grade Black Powder by combining niter, charcoal, and sulfur in the mortar_and_pestle_shapeless recipe. Upgrade to Medium-grade Black Powder and then High-grade Black Powder by repeating the process with better ratios. Store each grade as a Block of Low-grade Black Powder, Block of Medium-grade Black Powder, or Block of High-grade Black Powder.

Wet cakes and drying

For safer storage, craft Block of Wet Low-grade Black Powder, Block of Wet Medium-grade Black Powder, or Block of Wet High-grade Black Powder. Let them dry into High-grade Black Powder Cake or the matching dry cake. Break cakes back into loose powder when loading.

Load firearms

Scoop powder into a Large Powder Charge, then combine with Large Lead Musket Ball, Large Lead Buckshot, or Large Lead Birdshot in the muzzleloader reload recipe. Blasting Powder and Blasting Powder Stick are separate blasting items for demolition, not for firearms.
