How to Repair and Maintain Firearms

Guns wear out with use. Old Guns gives you dedicated repair items so you do not have to rebuild a gun from scratch.

Repair Items

Firearm Repair Kit is the general repair item. Each ignition family also has its own Repair Parts: Matchlock Repair Parts, Flintlock Repair Parts, and Caplock Repair Parts. Use the parts that match the gun's mechanism. A Flintlock Musket needs Flintlock Repair Parts, a Caplock Pistol needs Caplock Repair Parts, and so on.

Repair at the Bench

Take the damaged gun and the matching Repair Parts or Firearm Repair Kit to the Gunsmith's Bench. The bench handles the repair recipe. Keep spare parts in stock before a long trip, because you cannot craft them in the field without the bench.

Preventative Maintenance

Carry a Hacksaw for cutting replacement barrels and stocks at the bench. Keep Iron Bits and Lead Bits on hand so you can quickly produce fresh Iron Ingots and Lead Ingot for new barrels. If a gun is beyond saving, salvage what you can and reassemble a new one from a mechanism, barrel, stock, and trigger assembly. Gold and Diamond trigger assemblies and gear sets are the higher-tier components for guns you intend to keep long-term.
