How to Progress from Matchlock to Caplock

Old Guns is built around three ignition eras. Each era has its own mechanism, and the mechanism determines which guns you can assemble.

Era One: Matchlock

Matchlock is the entry tier. Craft a Matchlock Mechanism, then combine it with a barrel, a stock, and a trigger assembly at the Gunsmith's Bench. Matchlock guns include the Matchlock Arquebus, Matchlock Caliver, Matchlock Musket, Matchlock Musketoon, Matchlock Long Musket, Matchlock Blunderbuss, Matchlock Blunderbuss Pistol, Matchlock Pistol, and Matchlock Derringer. They require Match Cord and a Long Match to fire.

Era Two: Flintlock

Flintlock replaces the burning cord with a flint spark. Craft a Flintlock Mechanism and rebuild your guns around it. The Flintlock line adds the Flintlock Nock Gun alongside the same family of muskets, calivers, blunderbusses, pistols, and derringers. Flintlock Repair Parts maintain these guns.

Era Three: Caplock

Caplock is the most advanced tier. Craft a Caplock Mechanism and assemble the Caplock line, which includes the Caplock Duckfoot Derringer and Caplock Doublebarrel Blunderbuss in addition to the standard family. Caplock Repair Parts service them. Higher-tier trigger assemblies and gear sets (Iron, Gold, Diamond) improve the guns you build in any era, so upgrade your components as you move up the tiers.
