How to Make Black Powder and Ammunition

Every muzzleloader in Old Guns needs powder and a projectile. Powder comes in three grades, and each grade has a dry block form and a wet block form.

Powder Grades

Low-grade, Medium-grade, and High-grade Black Powder are the three tiers. Wet versions (Block of Wet Low-grade Black Powder, Block of Wet Medium-grade Black Powder, Block of Wet High-grade Black Powder) are intermediate states you dry into the usable blocks. High-grade Black Powder Cake is a related block used in stronger recipes. Blasting Powder and Blasting Powder Stick are separate explosive items.

Projectiles and Charges

Cast or craft ammunition at the Gunsmith's Bench. Musket balls come as Large Iron Musket Ball, Large Lead Musket Ball, and Large Stone Musket Ball. Shot comes as Large Iron Birdshot, Large Lead Birdshot, Large Iron Buckshot, and Large Lead Buckshot. Paper cartridges combine a ball with a powder charge: Large Iron Musket Ball Paper Cartridge, Large Lead Musket Ball Paper Cartridge, and Large Stone Musket Ball Paper Cartridge. Large Powder Charge is the standalone charge item. Niter is the raw feedstock: mine Niter Bedding, then process it in a Cauldron of Liquid Niter to get Liquid Niter, which you bottle as Liquid Niter Bottle or bucket as Liquid Niter Bucket. Use mortar and pestle recipes to grind ingredients into powder.
