How to Craft and Use the Gunsmith's Bench

The Gunsmith's Bench is the core workstation for every firearm in Old Guns. Place it down and right-click it to open its interface. Most firearm parts, mechanisms, and finished guns are made here rather than in a normal crafting table.

Bench Recipe Types

The bench supports several recipe categories. Shaped and shapeless bench recipes cover stocks, barrels, and assemblies. Recipes that require the Hacksaw are marked as hacksaw recipes, so keep a Hacksaw in your inventory when cutting barrels or stocks. Mortar and pestle recipes on the bench handle powder and niter grinding.

What to Make First

Start by producing Iron Bits and Lead Bits, then smelt them into Iron Ingots and Lead Ingot for barrels and ammunition. Craft a Flintlock Mechanism or Caplock Mechanism depending on which ignition system you want. Combine a mechanism with a barrel, a stock such as Large Wooden Stock, and a trigger assembly (Iron Trigger Assembly, Gold Trigger Assembly, or Diamond Trigger Assembly) to assemble a working gun. Repair Parts and a Firearm Repair Kit let you maintain guns at the bench as they wear down. Keep Design Notes nearby as a reference item while you work through the progression from matchlock to flintlock to caplock.
