Building with Black Sandstone

Black Sandstone comes in four related blocks: Black Sandstone, Black Chiseled Sandstone, Black Cut Sandstone, and Black Smooth Sandstone. Each has a distinct surface, and stonecutting is the efficient way to convert between them.

Collecting Black Sand

Black Sand is the raw material. Gather it from black sand terrain, then process it into Black Sandstone. Once you have Black Sandstone, you can run it through a stonecutter to produce the chiseled, cut, and smooth variants without wasting material on a crafting grid.

Stonecutting the Variants

Place Black Sandstone in a stonecutter and select Black Cut Sandstone or Black Chiseled Sandstone. Black Smooth Sandstone is the smelted or processed smooth form; use a furnace or blast furnace as appropriate. The stonecutting recipe type is heavily represented in this mod, so a stonecutter pays for itself quickly when you are producing large volumes of sandstone.

Design Notes

Black Cut Sandstone works well for clean wall panels, Black Chiseled Sandstone for accent columns and borders, and Black Smooth Sandstone for floors and flat facades. Mix all four in one build to get depth without adding new colors. Blue Chiseled Sandstone and Blue Cut Sandstone follow the same family logic if you want a cooler palette.
