Adjust Shadow Quality and Distance
Access Shader Settings
Open the Shader Options menu by pressing the designated key (usually accessed through Video Settings > Shaders > Shader Options). Look for shadow-related sliders and toggles.
Configure Shadow Parameters
NovaShade provides controls for:
- Shadow Distance: Determines how far from your character shadows are rendered. Lower values improve performance; higher values show shadows across your entire view distance.
- Shadow Resolution: Controls the detail level of shadow edges. Higher resolution creates sharper, crisper shadows but uses more GPU resources.
- Shadow Intensity: Adjusts how dark shadows appear. Increase for more dramatic contrast, decrease for softer lighting.
Performance Tuning
If you experience frame rate drops, reduce shadow distance first—this has the largest performance impact. Next, lower shadow resolution. Keep shadow intensity at your preferred aesthetic level, as it has minimal performance cost.
Apply and Test
After adjusting each setting, observe your world for several seconds. Shadows under trees and buildings update in real-time, so you'll see changes immediately. Find the balance between visual quality and smooth gameplay for your system.
