Use name tags strategically in hide-and-seek games

Setting up fair hide-and-seek rounds

The data pack's core strength is enabling balanced hide-and-seek by preventing seekers from tracking hiders through terrain. Use the team system to manage visibility during different game phases.

Before the game starts

1. Ensure all players are removed from visibility teams so names stay hidden

2. Confirm the data pack is active with /datapack list

3. Brief players that they cannot see each other's names through walls or distance

During gameplay

Keep name tags hidden for the entire round—this is the point. Seekers must rely on sound, visual contact, and exploration rather than name tag tracking. This makes finding hiders genuinely challenging and fair.

After the round ends

If you want to reveal all players for the next round or to gather everyone, temporarily add all players to a visible team, then remove them again before the next hide-and-seek match begins.
