How to Craft and Use Machetes

Craft the tier you can afford

There are three machetes: Golden Machete, Iron Machete and Diamond Machete. Craft the Golden Machete first if you only have gold, then move to Iron Machete once you have iron ingots, and finally Diamond Machete when diamonds are available.

Each machete is a shaped crafting recipe using the relevant metal plus a stick or handle material. The higher the tier, the more durable and effective the tool.

What machetes are for

Machetes are your harvesting tool for Nether plants and meat. Use them to cut through vegetation and to process mob drops more efficiently than by hand. Carry one whenever you go hunting hoglins or striders, because it speeds up the gathering loop that feeds your stove and smoker.

Progression order

1. Craft a Golden Machete as soon as you have gold.

2. Upgrade to Iron Machete when iron is available.

3. Save diamonds for the Diamond Machete as your long-term tool.

Keep your current machete repaired or replaced before it breaks mid-hunt. A spare Iron Machete in a chest near your Blackstone Stove means you are never stuck without a harvesting tool.
