How to Get Your First Pebbles and Twigs

Finding Pebbles on the Surface

Pebbles and Twigs spawn on the ground as small blocks you can pick up. Walk across grass, dirt, gravel, sand, and stone surfaces and collect any you see. The pebble types you will encounter include Stone Pebble, Andesite Pebble, Diorite Pebble, Granite Pebble, Deepslate Pebble, Tuff Pebble, Dripstone Pebble, Sandstone Pebble, Red Sandstone Pebble, Netherrack Pebble, End Stone Pebble, and the ore-bearing pebbles: Asurine Pebble, Crimsite Pebble, Jasper Pebble, Limestone Pebble, Marble Pebble, Ochrum Pebble, Scorchia Pebble, Scoria Pebble, Slate Pebble, Veridium Pebble, and Voidstone Pebble. Twigs are collected the same way.

Why You Need Them

Pebbles and Twigs are the starting materials for your first tools. Gather a stack of Stone Pebble and a handful of Twigs before doing anything else. You need both to craft early tools, and you need enough Stone Pebble to make multiple attempts at tools since early tools are fragile. Ore-bearing pebbles like Veridium Pebble, Asurine Pebble, Crimsite Pebble, Ochrum Pebble, Scorchia Pebble, and Scoria Pebble are worth collecting whenever you spot them, because they feed into later progression. Do not leave them on the ground.

Sorting Your Haul

Keep Stone Pebble and Twigs in your hotbar. Store the rest in a chest near your crafting table so you can grab them when a recipe calls for them.
