Crafting Saws and Upgrading Your Tool Tier

The Saw Family

Saws are the mod's cutting tools, and they come in a progression of materials: Flint Saw, Copper Saw, Bronze Saw, Iron Saw, Golden Saw, Steel Saw, Diamond Saw, and Netherite Saw. Each tier is made from the previous tier's material logic, so you upgrade as you obtain better metals and gems.

Early Saws

Start with the Flint Saw, made from Flint and Twigs. Once you have copper, craft the Copper Saw. When you can smelt copper and tin into bronze, craft the Bronze Saw. The Bronze Saw is your first metal saw that holds up to repeated use.

Mid and Late Saws

With iron, craft the Iron Saw. Gold gives you the Golden Saw. Steel, once you can produce it, gives you the Steel Saw. Diamond gives you the Diamond Saw, and Netherite gives you the Netherite Saw, the top of the line.

Using Saws

Saws cut wood and other materials that a hatchet struggles with, and higher tiers cut faster and last longer. Keep your previous saw as a backup when you upgrade, and carry the highest tier you can afford for serious building. Smithing is used for at least one upgrade in this chain, so keep a smithing table available once you reach the metal tiers.
