Creating a realistic British railway network with mixed train types

Planning your network layout

Design your railway with different line types: high-speed electrified routes for Class 80X trains, regional branches, and freight lines. The Class 80X's 125 mph capability makes them ideal for main trunk routes between major cities. Use MTR4's track tools to designate which sections are electrified (for pantograph operation) and which are diesel-only.

Integrating bi-mode capability

The Class 80X bi-mode trains can operate on both electric and diesel sections, making them perfect for mixed networks. Plan routes that transition between powered and unpowered track types—the trains will handle the switch automatically. This reduces the need for multiple train types and creates more realistic operations.

Building authentic stations and infrastructure

Create stations that match the scale and style of real British railways. Use different liveries for different operators on different routes. Add signalling, depot areas for train storage, and passenger facilities. The realistic interiors included in this pack reward detailed station design—players will notice the seating and accessible areas when boarding.

Schedule frequent services on main lines and less frequent services on branch routes for authentic operations.
