How to Craft Wooden Armor and Upgrade to Stone

Wooden Armor

Craft Wooden Helmet, Wooden Chestplate, Wooden Leggings, and Wooden Boots from planks in a crafting table. Each piece uses a shaped recipe: the helmet and chestplate take the usual head and torso layouts, while the leggings and boots follow the standard leg and foot patterns. Wooden armor is the cheapest full set available and is useful for early protection before you have smelted metals.

Moving to Stone

Once you have cobblestone, craft Stone Helmet, Stone Chestplate, Stone Leggings, and Stone Boots using the same shaped layouts but with cobblestone in place of planks. Stone armor is a direct upgrade over Wooden armor and costs only common blocks. Keep your Wooden set as a backup or recycle it into fuel if you no longer need it.

Progression Tip

Both sets use the same four-slot layout, so you can craft each piece without learning new patterns. Gather planks first for Wooden armor, then mine cobblestone for Stone armor. If you already have coal, skip ahead and craft Coal Helmet, Coal Chestplate, Coal Leggings, and Coal Boots instead, since coal is easy to obtain from mining and gives you a stronger set than Stone.
