Powering Machines with Axles, Gears and Windcatchers

More Red includes kinetic blocks built from wood types: Axle, Gear, Gearshifter, Clutch, and Windcatcher. Each wood type has its own version, such as Oak Axle, Oak Gear, Oak Gearshifter, Oak Clutch, and Oak Windcatcher, with equivalents for Acacia, Birch, Cherry, Crimson, Dark Oak, Jungle, Mangrove, and Pale Oak.

Building a Power Train

1. Craft a Windcatcher using the morered:windcatcher recipe for your chosen wood type.

2. Place the Windcatcher to generate rotation.

3. Connect an Axle to the Windcatcher to carry rotation to where you need it.

4. Attach a Gear to change how rotation is transferred between blocks.

5. Place a Gearshifter to change the direction or ratio of the rotation.

6. Place a Clutch in line to engage or disengage the power train.

Controlling the Train

Use the Clutch to stop rotation without breaking the build apart. Use the Gearshifter to switch the output between different paths. Combine Axles and Gears to route rotation around corners and across distances.

For electrical conversion, place an Alternator in the power train to turn rotation into redstone output. Feed that output into your Cable network, then into a Distributor, Extractor, Filter, Multifilter, or Osmosis Filter depending on what you are moving or sorting. Use the Loader to insert items and the Distributor to send them onward. Use Pliers to rotate Axles, Gears, Gearshifters, and Clutches so their connections line up.
