Building a Latch Circuit with More Red
A Latch stores a redstone state: once set, it stays on until it is reset. Use it whenever you want a button press to hold a machine on instead of only staying on while the button is held.
Crafting the Latch
Craft the Latch using its shaped recipe. It is a single block, so once crafted you can place it directly into your circuit.
Wiring the Latch
1. Place the Latch.
2. Connect your set input (for example, a button or a signal from a Diode) to the set side.
3. Connect your reset input to the reset side.
4. Take the output from the Latch to whatever you are controlling.
Because the Latch remembers its state, a short pulse on the set input is enough to turn the output on permanently. A pulse on the reset input turns it back off. This makes the Latch the right block for door controls, machine toggles, and any build where you want a single press to switch something on or off.
If you need the output to change only on a signal edge rather than while a signal is held, feed the Latch through a Pulse Gate. Use Cable and Cable Junction to route the set and reset lines independently so they do not interfere with each other.
