Adjust Shadow Distance and Quality
Access Shader Settings
Open your shader options menu while in-game. This is typically found in Video Settings > Shaders > Shader Options, though the exact path depends on your launcher.
Configure Shadow Parameters
Look for settings related to shadow rendering distance and quality. You can increase shadow distance to make shadows cast further across your terrain, or reduce it if you want better performance. Quality settings control how sharp and detailed shadows appear—higher quality means crisper shadows but slightly more GPU demand.
Test Your Changes
Apply your changes and load into a world during daytime. Walk around your builds and observe how shadows fall on blocks and terrain. Shadows should be clean and follow the sun's position. If performance drops, reduce shadow distance or quality incrementally until you find a balance that works for your system.
Fine-Tune for Your Build
For large outdoor builds, you may want longer shadow distances so shadows extend across the entire structure. For compact areas or potato setups, shorter distances maintain performance while still adding depth to nearby blocks.
