How to Build Stairs and Ramps for a Modern House

Understand ramp variants

Ramps replace stairs in a modern build. There are two families: standard Ramps and Log Ramps. Standard Ramps exist for Acacia, Andesite, Birch, Blackstone, Bricks, Chiseled Nether Bricks, Chiseled Polished Blackstone, Chiseled Quartz, Chiseled Red Sandstone, Chiseled Sandstone, Chiseled Stone Bricks, Clay, Cobbled Deepslate, and Cobblestone. Log Ramps exist for Acacia and Birch.

Build an entry ramp

1. Choose the Ramp material that matches your floor or exterior wall.

2. Place Ramps in a rising line from ground level to your door threshold.

3. Use Log Ramps where you want a timber look against a wood facade.

4. Place a matching Barrier block alongside the ramp edge to stop players walking off the side.

Build interior level changes

1. Use the same Ramp material as the surrounding floor so the transition is invisible.

2. For a sunken living area, ring the lower floor with Ramps so the step down is walkable.

3. Match the Ramp to your wall material where the ramp meets a wall, for example Andesite Ramp against Andesite Barrier.

Finish the exterior

Use Blue Vinyl Siding on exterior walls and cap the base with a matching Ramp run. Keep one Ramp material per level change; mixing Ramp materials on a single slope makes the transition read as mismatched.
