Building a Nuclear Reactor and Handling HE/LE Fuel

Fuel Materials

Nuclear work starts with Uranium. Mine Uranium Ore, process it into dust, and combine into Block of LE Uranium and Block of HE Uranium. LE Mox and HE Mox are the mixed-oxide variants, stored as Block of LE Mox and Block of HE Mox. Plutonium comes from reprocessing and stores as Block of Plutonium. Keep these blocks isolated from your normal storage; they are the reactor's consumables.

Reactor Construction

Build the reactor shell from Blastproof Casing and Blastproof Alloy Large Plate. These are the only blast-resistant structural blocks in the mod, so use them for every face of the reactor and for the containment around it. Anchor the reactor on Advanced Machine Casing and connect it with Advanced Machine Hull.

Cooling and Output

Reactors need coolant flow. Run Black Fluid Pipe from an Aluminum Tank into an Advanced Fluid Input Hatch, and route heated coolant out through an Advanced Fluid Output Hatch back to a second Tank or Barrel. Use Advanced Pump and Advanced Motor to drive circulation.

Safety

Never place LE or HE fuel blocks next to flammable builds. Keep an Automatic Trash Can on the output line for spent byproducts, and use Advanced Item Input Hatch and Advanced Item Output Hatch to automate fuel loading and waste removal. Test with LE Uranium first before moving to HE Mox.
