Cutting and Socketing Gems into Your Gear

Where Gems Come From

Gems in this mod are tiered. Each gem type exists at six levels, registered as Gems/Amethyst/1 through Gems/Amethyst/6, and the same 1–6 range for Azurite, Emerald, Garnet, Opal, Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz, and Tourmaline. Higher numbers are stronger gems.

You obtain gems from the mod's loot and crafting systems. The Currency/Extract Gem item is used to extract a gem from gear, letting you recover a socketed gem instead of losing it.

Cutting and Extracting

To put a gem into a piece of gear, use the gear's socket interface and place the gem into an open socket. Each socket accepts one gem. Match the gem's tier to the socket's requirement — a level 6 gem will not fit a low-tier socket.

If you want the gem back, use Currency/Extract Gem on the socketed piece. This pulls the gem out so you can reuse it on better gear or sell it.

Runes work the same way. Use Currency/Extract Rune to pull a rune out of a piece of gear. Before socketing, decide whether the piece is worth the gem: salvaging a socketed item at the Salvaging Station destroys the gem unless you extract it first. Extract before you salvage.
